Maartje Jaquet en Marcel Prins hebben elkaar ontmoet op de foto en video webcommunity www.flickr.com.
Niet alleen hun interesses vertonen veel overeenkomsten (Kurt Schwitters, Jacques Tati and Sesamestreet), ook hun werk èn hun manier van werken vertoont grote raakvlakken.Zowel bij Marcel als bij Maartje komt het werk spontaan en intuïtief tot stand. Ze maken graag gebruik van het toeval.
Maartjes foto’s en video’s zou je ‘gevonden voorwerpen’ kunnen noemen en ook Marcel maakt veelvuldig gebruik van gevonden materiaal.
Verschil is dat bij Marcel de voorraad bruikbare materialen inmiddels vele kubieke meters in beslag neemt, terwijl Maartjes vondsten als gigabytes op een paar schijfjes bewaard kunnen worden.
Maar dat is puur toeval.
Net als het feit dat deze expositie over dieren gaat.
Af en toe inspireert Marcel’s werk Maartje tot een gedicht.

Not only do they share the same interests (Kurt Schwitters, Jacques Tati en Sesamstraat), both their work ànd their way of working have a lot in common.
Marcel and Maartje’s work is created in a spontaneous and intuitive way. They like to take advantage of coincidence.
Maartje photos and videos could be called ‘found objects’. Marcel often uses found material to create his sculptures.
The only difference is that in Marcel’s house the amount of found material is outgrowing the size of a container, wheras Maartje’s found stuff can be easily contained as gigabytes on a couple of disks.
But that’s purely coincidental.
Just as the fact that this exhibition is about animals.
Every once in a while Marcel’s work inspires Maartje to write a poem.
